to be loved

Here’s a little somethin’ different for you on this soggy (at least in Southern CA it is) Sunday evening. I heard this song by Bent awhile back and I liked it quite a bit. There’s no video for the song so I’ve posted it in it’s most accessible format. I’ll admit I’m being a bit lazy but I can’t really get into the distraction of figuring out the juke box just yet (although I’m sure I’d love to, I’m too busy creating more new t-shirts - and other stuff :)). So, no You Tube tonight, but a fun little ditty that makes me wanna dance. Hope you enjoy… have a great week and feel the love, it’s all we need… or so they say.

Since there is no You Tube or new shirts (yet) this evening, here’s another little something different to look at while listening, just click here

to die in LA

I don’t know how it is that I let a Sunday go by, and then MLK’s birthday, and even a full moon - all with no postings… what a strange week its been so far. Anyhoo, will try to make up for those lost opportunities, starting with this little number that I’ve had a hard time getting out of my head for most of this previously described strange week. Peace to you, and may Heath rest in peace. To die in LA isn’t so different than to die in Manhattan… is it?

And the world’s a song that plays along,
And you don’t know how you got there
You don’t know why you got there
Looking outside, outside of yourself

sprout and the bean

Today was a most beautiful day, so I went outside to play. Seems appropriate to start this new week with a pure and playful song by the gifted (and possibly brilliant if her peculiarity is any indication) harpist and composer Joanna Newsom. Hope you have a brilliant and happy week and get to break some bread, if you’re interested. Cheers.

the sun also sets

And so it goes… que sera sera… there it is… we are but one push from the nest, and the sun rises but the sun also sets. That’s when we can see the moon… By Ryan Adams (his site is unique in a very close encounters kinda way…). Enjoy, and click here to browse while listening.

to build a home

A storm in Southern California, even a ‘bad’ one, rarely packs the punch that a storm anywhere else does, its just that we don’t get them all that often and so we’re not all that used to it. Roads have oil built up on them and become super slick, and the dried up coastline easily erodes under the force and weight of the water. Anyway, I was driving around downtown in the rain and there they were, the homeless of America’s self-proclaimed “Finest City”, many of them (and its a sad fact that over 1200 of the homeless in San Diego alone are veterans*) on the soaked sidewalks, streets and in the doorways, with their complete collection of possessions in a shopping cart, sheltered only with a wet blanket. Wish I could build them all a home. I’m so grateful for my warm and cozy shelter from the storm. We should all have that.

Here’s a beautiful performance of a beautiful song by Cinematic Orchestra. Wishing you a safe, warm and peaceful week, and shelter from the storm should you need it. Click here to meander…

truth & consequences

Okay, I admit I’m not the avid reader I aspire to be and no, I haven’t read this book in its entirety - but I have heard most of it in the form of Keith Olbermann’s Special Comments as delivered on his show, ‘Countdown‘. They aren’t all about the Bush administration but many of them are and I’ve said it before (right here on this blog) and I’ll say it again; K.O. packs a much-deserved punch and does so in such a manner that Bush himself may not even fully comprehend (i.e. (Keith’s) intellectual, informed and astute). So although there’s more music than books in my 2007 recommendations, this one captures an uncomfortable yet historical snapshot of our politically problematic year(s). It’s one for the archives.

if this ain’t love

Starting this new year with a little bit of throwback soul; there’s a classic, stylish, Supreme-like quality here, but the song is from the ‘07 debut release of the Finnish band Nicole Willis & The Soul Investigators. Enjoy, and do have a happy!
