quarterly causes
We can, therefore we must…
10% of the proceeds of every Green Tee sale is donated to a cause.
Not ‘our’ cause; we want you to decide. What stirs your passions and touches your soul? Where do you want to see improvement on our planet and in our world? Global warming? Darfur? Homelessness? Human trafficking? AIDS? Education? Pollution? Poverty? There’s much to choose from - disasters of the natural and man-made variety…
So every few months we’ll provide donation options for you to choose from in the form of Green Tee Quarterly Causes (GTQC’s). We’ll tell you all we know about the causes and the organizations we’re referencing, and offer resources for more information. We’ll do the homework and share the report cards of the charities so that you know your money is going where you want it to go, and then we’ll send it there.
Your giving doesn’t have to stop there and we hope it doesn’t. When you see something that moves you, we urge you to research the cause further, and know that your additional support beyond the financial can affect change. Many of the websites linked herein contain prewritten letters to local, state and national politicians. Many offer other ideas as to how you can help, oftentimes as effortless as clicking the ’send’ key, or performing a random act of kindness, picking up a piece of trash, or turning a light off. Do it.
Give a hoot.
We visit a magnificent stretch of coastline in Southern California on a regular basis, and are always amazed at the number of people who come to relish in the beauty of this spectacular place and leave their trash behind - everything from cigarette butts to plastic food containers to… well, other yuckier stuff. We figure some of them think that one, or two, or ten cigarette butts won’t really count, or that someone will pick their candy wrapper or aluminum can or plastic bag up before it blows into the ocean, or that it somehow just doesn’t matter, or maybe they’re not thinking about it at all. To them we pose the question: what if everyone came to the sea and used the coastline as their ashtray or trashcan? What will be left for your children, and theirs? Not a pretty picture, but let’s reverse the image…
Conversely, what if everyone spoke a kind word to a stranger, or picked up a piece of trash. What if everyone called or wrote their local, state or national politicians to plea for their cause? What if we all used our considerable power for the betterment of our planet? Visualize that.
Our promise.
A number of factors contribute to the selection of our quarterly causes, including the urgency, intensity and tragedy of a given situation. In the case of each we’ll do our best to provide the most crucial, motivating and practical information in the form of links and suggested reading and viewing, and we’ll strive to do so in the least repetitive fashion. Although there is no such thing as a sure thing, we’ll also do our best to ensure that the recipient organizations are conducting business in a responsible and ethical manner and that the funds donated are serving the cause, not the executives.
Our first Quarterly Cause Donation Reports will be available in January 2008.
We welcome your suggestions for future Quarterly Causes.
