Crimes perpetrated against children are of the most heinous, as the victims are the most vulnerable. The problem is worldwide, and the internet has served to promote the child pornography industry so dramatically that it has become more prevalent and profitable that rather than less; a problem exacerbated rather than solved.
The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children’s (NCMEC) mission is to help prevent child abduction and sexual exploitation; help find missing children; and assist victims of child abduction and sexual exploitation, their families, and the professionals who serve them.
In 1996 the U.S. Congress established the Exploited Child Unit (ECU) within the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC). The ECU serves as a resource center for the public, parents, law enforcement, and others about the issues surrounding the sexual exploitation of children.
